The Catholics & Cultures website hopes to provide a free online resource for those wanting to learn more about how Catholicism is practiced in different countries.
Holy Cross Launches Online Resource on Faith and Culture

On Feb. 4, Fr. Philip L. Boroughs, SJ, president of the College of the Holy Cross, officially announced the launch of Catholics & Cultures, an online resource which explores the different ways in which Catholics throughout the world practice their faith.

“Catholics and Cultures offers scholars, students and the general public an opportunity to explore the practice of Catholicism as it is experienced around the world,” said Fr. Boroughs. “As a global faith community, the sacramental and devotional life of Catholicism is expressed in a multitude of ways reflective of the distinct countries and cultures in which the faith community resides.”

The free website is an initiative of the Rev. Michael C. McFarland, SJ, Center for Religion, Ethics and Culture. Content is sorted by country and theme. Among some of the resources are scholarly articles, demographic data, videos, photographs, and interviews.

Going forward, as students and faculty members go on research trips, the content will grow to become more comprehensive. Future updates will include more information on the faith practices in countries such as Argentina, China, Lebanon, and the Philippines. Additionally, the Catholics & Cultures initiative will host scholarly lectures, and international conferences, as well as an online journal on global Catholicism.
